Royal Ascot…Dress Code

Christine Hale Style @ Royal Ascot on Wednesday.   I love it as a day to wear a smart stylish outfit, as do most ladies but it was evident that the Dress Code hadn’t been read by quite a few!

I do wonder at the effectiveness of their Dress Code policy.  I saw some very short strappy/strapless dresses!   Then yesterday I saw the Daily Mail-on line article which made me feel the need to say something.  Is this what one of our British summer stand out events is being made into.  So, I sent an email…

Bawdiness, booze and the women who have turned my beloved Ascot into… CHAVSCOT, by a traditional lady race fan

Dear  Sir/Madam
I would like to draw your attention to the article below particularly the photographs, in relation to your stated Dress Code.
Whilst I understand that it isn’t so easy to enforce perhaps you should do something to encourage people to adhere to it even if they have arrived @ the course in a super short strapless dress.  Why not have a charity stand available where ladies inappropriately dressed are asked to purchase items that makes them acceptable or simply turn them away!!
Dress code as stated on your website
Ladies are kindly asked to take particular note of the following:
A hat, headpiece or fascinator should be worn at all times.
Strapless or sheer strap dresses and tops are not permitted.
Dress code as stated on the reverse of all tickets:
Please ensure you comply with the dress code requirement for your enclosure.  For full details refer to

I was at Royal Ascot in the Grandstand on Wednesday ( see attached photograph) and was myself amazed by some of the outfits I saw.  Surely if you advertise a dress code you ought to impose it.  I would truly not wish for Royal Ascot to become Chavscot the Daily Mail is alluding to.

I would also suggest that part of the problem is that there are a large number of bars but not so many food stands so people tend to drink but not eat!!  Please don’t make the reason for Royal Ascot to be just to make money.

I would kindly ask for your reply and comments.

Royal Ascot is all about style about style – Fashion Guru Gok Wan was there to discuss the dresses/fashions.  Ladies dress to look lovely and have a nice day at the races.   I have to say I believe that the dress code is enforced for the Royal Enclosure but appears to not be anywhere else.

Dress code incorrect, she is at least wearing something on her head!

I don’t wish to appear to be a ‘grump’ BUT it would be lovely that, tradition is stuck to where it is asked for from both sides.

Lets see the reply I get.

Happy Stylish days out!!
